This blog post isn’t only directed to ThinkPad owners as most notebook Linux users with Intel Core Duo 1/2 and i3/i5/i7 processors have been affected by this bug if not all. And yes, this problem is present on latest Debian Unstable and Ubuntu 11.10.
I’m owner of Thinkpad X300, great machine except the fact that just recently I replaced its 3rd cooling fan! Yea, I do a lot of compiling and it’s on all the time, but still this kind of things shouldn’t happen. I first linked this problem to the fact that Thinkpad fan on Linux (as of 2.6.22) always works at what’s its basically maximum RPM, thus the reason there are numerous fan control scripts. My favorite one is Thinkfan, but controlling fan doesn’t really help if you have a overheating problem. For matter of a fact it working on its maximum speed might only help, with its own toll.
As of kernel 2.6.38 up until 3.1 (still present) there has been a problem of power regression but besides this I had slight problem with overheating. Regarding overheating in beginning I tried reporting bugs, tried different Thinkfan configurations, blamed proprietary software such as Adobe Flash for spiking up CPU temperature, however this problem was somewhat solved. After numerous battery calibrations and as these didn’t work in the end for battery life getting poorer with each day, I just blamed the factor that notebook was getting pretty old (~3 years).

Ok, after my post about Forum, take two, soon enough I got pissed off and completely removed the forum, including database. There are two reasons I acted the way I did, first one is that there was not enough of traffic and I had to keep coming back to see if anything is new and moderate it. Second reason is that I actually dedicated one (hidden) part of the forum to the university it club, so … I didn’t like that.
So I pretty much snapped and removed everything, havoc :)
But after I see (from your comments) that there’s still need for the same, forum is back up, with new database so you’ll have to everybody will have to register agian. Also let me note that this reason is up because Reece (Rolyin) agreed to help out and he’ll be moderating it, thanks! :)
In case he decides to quit his position, I’ll be forced to give database username and password to someone for safe keeping :D

If you’re not a metalhead, skip this without even having a second thought.
I heard about Chimaira back in some ~2003. I said, they’re ok, and moved on; later on however, with their third album I was pretty amazed, I was eagerly expecting their new album (4th) until yesterday when my opinion kinda changed.
Less then a month ago, I commented on of the release date of the new album on Chimaira’s website, then when I was about to post a comment, there was no any kind of notification in case you wanna get a reply on your comment or something.
Since I actually saw their whole site was powered by WordPress, I said shit, why not give it a try and help these guys, not for the money or fame or honeys (heh); but just help them out, make their web a better place to be at. 30 sec of “forensics” and I was writing email to their “technical guy”, webmaster eh?

Ok, without really any reason I “closed” the forum for the first time, and now I’m “opening” it for the second time. Actually to be completely honest I closed it for the first time because there wasn’t much of a talk in there. In the meantime, a port of the forum is being used by AUBIH IT Club members, part o the forum you’re not aware unless you’re in the club :)
Once you also gave your opinion that FC does have a forum, even though poll wasn’t there long enough. Besides this poll I really don’t know if the forum is needed, because not really a lot of discussion is going on in the comments or anything, but … suit yourselves :)
Nevertheless, forum is up again, and open for discussion for everyone and no one really. If you have any questions regarding anything, please do ask. I promise I won’t close it this time, no matter if it’s visited or not and … such :)
Firefox 2, predecessor?
Firefox 3 is coming out today. It’s been more some 1.5 years since I wrote Firefox 2 post. And about a year ago, since I wrote about my first real encounter with Firefox 3.
My stance on on Firefox 2 remains the same, that is I hate it, no personal reason or anything, from my posts linked above you can get to know my true feelings about it.
If it wasn’t for Firefox 2, I’d never even come close to Firefox 3. A month ago or so, I came to the point, where I couldn’t handle Firefox 2 and it crashing, so I was in hunt to change my browser or move to Firefox 3 which at that point was in early beta stage of development.
So what else was around? What was I aiming for? I’d like to move away from Firefox3 for a second and take a look at the “global” browser scene today.
