Since, from time to time I use FoolControl as my best hate catalyst … well I’m gonna go ahead and hate one of the things I love the most.
Couple of years ago, I did one pretty unusual thing, my hdd died and I didn’t swap “my computers”, instead I actually powered it on without hdd using live linux distributions and used my usb stick to imitate my hard drive. Since it took awhile to get my new hdd, I went through many live linux distros and what I did is I tested their uptime :)
Now I thought I had these results recorded/stored somewhere, but sadly couldn’t find them. All I can remember is that among many I think Knoppix scored the best results and managed to stay up for 8 days. I disliked Knoppix back then and I still dislike it today, but I remember at the time I was “full time” Slackware user and that Slax “scored” the lowest results. Which compared to today … isn’t bad, far from it, I still may not be able to check my mail with that same Slax, but hey it’s gonna keep its uptime.
Now, what happened is that I sent my X300 back to Lenovo customer service right after I got it after it was there for two monts. Now it’s making funny noises, and I had to send it to Lenovo, let me give you a word advice on all of this. Never, never buy the most expensive notebook there is, once they take it away from you, I feel like I lost a child or something. I love my x300, it’s too perfect and it’s all, but after I’m left without it … I’m hating, and I got the blues :(
If you’re not a metalhead, skip this without even having a second thought.
I heard about Chimaira back in some ~2003. I said, they’re ok, and moved on; later on however, with their third album I was pretty amazed, I was eagerly expecting their new album (4th) until yesterday when my opinion kinda changed.
Less then a month ago, I commented on of the release date of the new album on Chimaira’s website, then when I was about to post a comment, there was no any kind of notification in case you wanna get a reply on your comment or something.
Since I actually saw their whole site was powered by WordPress, I said shit, why not give it a try and help these guys, not for the money or fame or honeys (heh); but just help them out, make their web a better place to be at. 30 sec of “forensics” and I was writing email to their “technical guy”, webmaster eh?
Earlier this year, I talked a lot about making my own Linux distribution, Codename: peacenow (talk), then later on I even posted a Codename: peacenow | open design (ideas, possible design). I put the whole thing on one long “pause”. What happened in the meantime is … well among other things, I changed my “codename” … I even switched to Gnome after KDE4 being what it is.
I really don’t know how to explain this … so breathe with me. I personally see IT in following specters, Graphics/Design/Art, Programming, Networking. But just recently I was put in a position …
Fuck this, starting today, I’m actually starting the work on my own Linux distribution. In imperfect world, there’s no perfect linux distributions, they are all visions of various minds, but none of them suiting enough to fill every single void.
My whole life I’ve been “distro hopping”, but in a period of last two years, I changed soo many distributins that’s it’s just … I even managed to change 3 distros in 7 days. Yea, I even managed to get a nickname “distro whore” :)
Point being that I really believe that I can make something different. What I know right now is that it’ll definetely be based on Debian. In begining it may not even look any different then Debian itself, since I’m not even sure I’m forking it or anything … obvious will that it’ll be less stable (no it won’t be another Ubuntu), different name and different philosophy.
It’s been almost 2 months since my last post here on foolcontrol.
After I got enough of emails of you guys asking me: “Was that it for foolcontrol?” “Is foolcontrol dead?” “Are you dead?” “Why haven’t you been writing anything?” … I thought least I can do is post anything. Problem is that I was incredibly busy, so it all just kinda hit me hard, working on a lot of projects (simultaneously of course), then this and that … it was just too much to handle. At least in a sense to write a blog post, after work once I’m home, instead of relaxing, enjoying myslef, I’d just switch to work on my other project(s).
Don’t get me wrong, I love working, I’m really enjoying it, and this blog or whatever you want to call it, I’m doing all of this from pure enjoyment, not cuz I’m forced to do so or anything like that. And thank all to the guys who were actually “worried” about what’s happening both to me and foolcontrol. Since a lot has happened in a period since my last post, this will pretty much what “ordinary” people write on their blogs, and that is, boring stuff from their life :)
What was I doing that kept me so busy?
Beginning of summer, for most people synonym for heat, beaches, hot naked objects and beer. So just as summer started I got hired to develop School Information System for AUBIH. Briefly … Debian, Postgresql, Apache, PHP and tons of caffeine. Whole system took me around 3months to develop, and was one of the projects that kept me most occupied this whole summer.
Here’s something something I did just recently :)
I just had it inside of my head for too long. Been thinking about it from every aspect of our everyday life. One day I wake up, and said “let’s do this”
Nov 4. 2008 Edit
Over night people just started coming from somewhere and viewing this video, so last time I check it was somewhere on ~10.000 views, and over night it’s ~25.000 views I really don’t know where they are coming from … but yea.
